The directors of the Central Adirondack Association (CAA) voted unanimously at their Thursday, June 6 meeting to create a matching funds grant to help raise donations for the Strand Theatre’s mandatory conversion to digital projection.

The board pledged to match donations by CAA members up to $5,000.

The Polar Bear Ski Club was the first to contribute to the cause with its Tuesday, June 11 donation of $2,600—the entire proceeds of the club’s recent tent sale.

CAA has partnered with CAP-21 to lead a Save Our Strand (SOS) community group that includes VIEW and the Town of Webb Historical Association, among others.

The group is planning a Strand 90th Anniversary Party for Thursday, July 25 on the knoll of the Forge Motel.

The Save Our Strand committee has a goal of raising $150,000 toward the potential digital conversion cost of approximately $250,000.

Checks for the matching donation program can be made out to CAP-21 with the Strand Theatre and CAA in the notation.

For more information or to make a donation, please call CAP-21 at (315) 369-3353.
